About Us

Bon bini Bonaire! Welcome to Bonaire!

Like many others we had a dream about starting a new life on a tropical island. For us this dream came through in February 2010 when we moved to the small island of Bonaire to built a small but intimate guesthouse Casa-Calexico, where guests will have “a home away from home” feeling. We have been living in here on Bonaire since February 2010 and Casa-Calexico has become a great success. We even became number 1 on Tripadvisor!

In 2014 plans began to form about a new guesthouse. A friend bought an old traditional Antillean house on the boulevard that needed renovation. Together we came up with some ideas and Kas Hamaka was born.

But let me first introduce ourselves: my husband (Joop) and me ( Audrey) met each other in 1990 and got married in 2000. After I finished my study of Language and Literature science at the university of Tilburg we started travelling all over the world and soon after that we decided to start a guesthouse one day, somewhere where the sun always shines! At that time he was working in construction but in 2002 he became a firefighter. He worked at the fire department of the city of Tilburg with great pleasure until we came to Bonaire.

In 2000 we decided to get married in Borneo. On the 1st of September we got married in Kuching (Sarawak) and we got infected with the travel bug! The next 10 years we travelled a lot to Asia, Africa, the Pacific and the Caribbean. During our travels we started fantasizing about starting are own little hotel, resort, b&b or guesthouse. We were thinking about Mexico or Costa-Rica, but also about Thailand or the Philippines. It turns out we fell in love with a beautiful wooden house on the small but very friendly island of Bonaire.

So here we are now, building our second dream! We hope to share this dream with all future visitors and are looking forward to welcome our first guests.

UPDATE: from September 2017 until October 2018 we are fulfilling another long time dream: driving the Panamarican Highway! We have found a great enthusiastic Dutch couple, Jan Bosker and Elke Dekker, who are going to take care of our guests while we are gone! They will take great care of you and your family!
